Sanctuary Beneath the Pines
Beneath a canopy of mature Scots Pines, this woodland garden in Woking offered the opportunity to create a landscape shaped by its surroundings rather than imposed upon them.
The Brief
Protected Scots Pines defined the site, while dense laurel and invasive rhododendron restricted light and limited the garden's potential. Our clients wanted to create a more welcoming and usable space while working within a modest budget and retaining the woodland character of the garden.
Our Response
By carefully opening key areas of overgrown planting, we restored light to the garden floor and introduced naturalistic planting designed to thrive beneath the pine canopy. Hard landscaping was kept to a minimum, allowing the design to work with the existing landscape rather than compete with it.
The Outcome
The garden now feels lighter, more immersive and closely connected to its surroundings. The Scots Pines have become the defining feature of the space, providing structure, atmosphere and a strong sense of place.
'Jude did an incredible job with our garden design and overall project management. She listened to what we wanted, worked with our budget and delivered a garden that has surpassed our expectations. Her attention to detail and understanding of our woodland garden were second to none, resulting in a sympathetic design that feels as though it has always been there. We have a lot of shaded areas in the garden but she somehow managed to create a garden full of beautiful flowers and colour - something I never thought we’d have. She has great contacts in the industry and worked hard behind the scenes to make sure the whole thing went smoothly. Jude is also just a lovely person to work with - I’d highly recommend her to anybody looking to create a new garden."
